Supply Lists

Please find below the Supply Lists of materials you will need to bring for some of the Academy Classes.

Please note these are listed in class code order.

Whether an Academy class has a supply list is noted in the description of the class and on the ticket. Some have material costs payable to the tutor on the day of class as well, or instead, again do refer to the description of each individual class for this.

Come make a unique, mask wall-hanging. Renee will share her method of auditioning fabric to help you look at your palette differently. Using a line drawing as a launchpad, come create a one of a kind Mask!  First you will learn how to customize the drawing to create your own masterpiece. Then we will move on to fabric selection where you get to customize your pattern even more.  To bring your mask to life, Renee will share one of her favourite fusible appliqué techniques. By the end of the day, you should have a fully fused mask.  No sewing machine required to this point. She will spend time at the end of the day discussing how to finish your mask at home. Suitable for all abilities. There is a supply list. There is also a material cost of £15 for pattern and Salal paper payable to the tutor on the day of class. NB: This is one of our new Deluxe Academy classes which includes buffet lunch and tea/coffee morning and or afternoon.

 Tuesday 1 day

We will provide everything you will need but you will need to bring:

Please bring with you:

  • Basic Sewing Kit
  • 3 yards of Wonder Under Fusible Web
  • Scissors – both paper and fabric
  • Straight pins
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Applique Pressing Sheet: 20” x 36”
  • Mini iron (no personal full size irons allowed)
  • 1 yard of fabric that reads as a solid to build your mask on.  This will be referred to as the ‘foundation fabric’.  I don’t recommend prints as we will be adding many different fabrics on top, and you want clear definition of each piece.  Very dark or very light fabrics work best.
  • 1 ½ yards of background fabric.  Your finished mask will be appliquéd to this fabric, so you want high contrast to both your foundation fabric above and mask fabric below.  You might want to bring a couple of different pieces to choose from and we can discuss which might work best.
  • 7-10, 1½ yard pieces. You won’t use them all, or the entire half yard, but the more fabrics you have to play with the better.  On average, I use about 7 different fabrics, but don’t limit your design possibilities. Fabric should coordinate with your foundation and background fabric.

Additional supplies to complete your mask at home

  • 2 yards of trim/fringe to attach to the raw edge of your mask. (You wont need this in class, as trims added after the piece is quilted)
  • Border fabrics of your choice (won’t need this in class, as borders are added later)

Materials Cost:

There is also a material cost of £15, payable to the tutor in cash on the day of this class.

For further information please email Renee at: [email protected]

A small supply list is provided, plus there is a materials cost of £15 payable to the tutor on the day of class. This workshop will take you through the stages of piecing together a patchwork quilt by hand, using a jelly roll as a starting point for block building. Sampler quilts were very popular during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and it was often the way a young girl would be encouraged to start sewing, one block at a time. You will be invited to choose the blocks that most appeal to you from a selection provided by Andrea. During this workshop Andrea will cover the basics of colour combination, emphasizing the importance of balance in the choice of hues from a palette already provided by the jelly roll. Apart from the creativity involved in putting the blocks together, the challenge will be to ensure that the fabrics work together in harmony. Imagine a portrait quilt made of found objects, ink, fabric, and thread, each piece telling a unique story. That’s what “Stitched Memories” is all about – a beautiful patchwork of memories and emotions beautifully woven together. Pam loves working with beautiful Indian cotton, as it’s incredibly soft and has a unique texture that enhances the overall look of her art. To create a soft portrait, she also uses leftover batting, which adds another layer of softness and depth to the piece. To bring her portraits to life, she uses a combination of coloured pencils and thread to add intricate details and shading.  During the process, she draws the portrait on see-through cotton, which allows her to easily transfer the image onto fabric. From there, she experiments with different fabrics and illustrations, which are placed randomly on the fabric to create a unique and eye-catching design.  If you’re interested in creating your own portrait, Pam will be happy to show you how! We can start by selecting an image that you’d like to recreate and explore different techniques for adding depth and dimension to your piece. With a little bit of practice and creativity, you’ll be amazed at what you can create! Suitable for all abilities. A small supply is provided.
