‘In the Spotlight: Young Quilters 2018’
This year the ‘In the Spotlight’ gallery showcases work by Young Quilters, members of The Quilters’ Guild aged between 5 and 18 years old. This is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the creativity, skills and talent of these young people, the next generation of quilters.
Any Young Quilter or group can be nominated to take part and as many entries as possible are chosen to represent The Guild’s regions across the UK. Quilts of varying sizes, designs, themes and techniques have been selected and will culminate in an exciting diverse exhibition.
Young Quilters is all about having fun and being creative! Guild volunteers teach young people quilting techniques at the Festival of Quilts but also run regular YQ workshops and after-school clubs in their local areas. YQs have the opportunity to enter competitions, take part in exhibitions and have their sewing skills recognised and rewarded.
Last year Young Quilters extended its age range to include 17 and 18 year olds. The blog ‘Youngish Quilters’ was created for 14 -18s and is updated weekly with lots of inspiring ideas. ‘In the Spotlight’ will feature the work of Youngish Quilters as well as highlight the Guild’s continued work with primary and secondary schools. We are pleased to be exhibiting quilts created by YQ school members from around the country.
