Love Your Mother
Mother Earth… she provides our home, our sustenance, our every need… but we are taking her for granted and destroying her air and water, her forests and wildlife. The polar ice caps are melting, the pollinators are dwindling, forests are being cut down, water is contaminated, oceans are overfished, and the Earth’s guardians, the indigenous peoples, are being displaced and silenced.
This quilt challenge and exhibit are a collective effort to raise awareness and inspire others to Love Mother Earth. It starts with a digital-printed fabric panel with the Earth (Americas, Australia or Africa) and a Rainbow Mandala. The intent of this challenge is to give artists a way to express their feelings about what is happening to Mother Earth.
The original challenge was juried down to 17 quilts. Organised and curated by Luana Rubin from eQuilter in Boulder Colorado in the US, this exhibit is traveling around the world to inspire viewers to speak out and take action on behalf of the Earth. All too often, we feel like our voice will not be heard if we try to speak up for the environment. These artists have taken the first step to express their concerns, and their hope is that all who see this exhibit will go home and think about what they can do to Love Our Mother Earth.
