We’re delighted to share a selection of quilts by Kaffe Fassett in celebration of his latest book, Quilts from an English Village released August 2021. The book is the 23rd in the series and offers projects for quilters of all levels, each inspired by the beautiful medieval village of Lavenham in Suffolk.
This exhibition will showcase a number of the quilts featured in the book, plus one from Kaffe Fassett in the Studio, published in April this year, all with his signature bold colours and bright fabrics. Kaffe is presenting a lecture on Saturday 31st July so make sure you sign up.
“When I was a youngster in California, my Father moved us from our town house to a log cabin in the small coastal community of Big Sur. The house had real character and I loved living in a structure that constantly reminded us of the creative energy that built it.
Growing up in the fastest developing state in America, I was horrified to witness wonderful old buildings getting torn down or converted to slick soul-less modernity. This made me long for a place that would value its heritage of historic houses.
Imagine my delight when I first clapped eyes on this wondrous town of Lavenham in Suffolk. To find houses with such creative signatures and best of all, in a stunning array of colours.
Debbie Patterson, Brandon and I did our best to show as many architectural details as we could on our shoot for this book. The soft colours of the buildings enhanced our quilts – many of them designed with these Tudor structures in mind”.
