In The Spotlight: Young Quilters 2020
In the Spotlight: Young Quilters 2020 is an exhibition showcasing work produced by Young Quilters aged 5 to 18 years old, the youngest members of The Quilters’ Guild. Join us to celebrate the creativity, skills and talent of these young people and encourage the next generation of quilters to keep the craft alive and thriving.
This is an exciting opportunity for young people to exhibit at a national festival and to share their work with you. The exhibition features a variety of quilts varying in size, format, theme and technique to culminate in a diverse exhibition for you to enjoy. Many of the Young Quilters have learned sewing skills and created these quilts during workshops which are led by an enthusiastic, dedicated team of Guild volunteers nationwide. We thank our volunteers for passing on their passion, skills and knowledge from generation to generation.
Young Quilters is all about being creative with textiles, learning sewing skills, making friends and most importantly having fun! As part of YQ membership, Young Quilters receive a newsletter twice a year in the Spring and Autumn as well as an annual Christmas project. The young people have the chance to enter challenges and competitions and win exciting prizes, plus the opportunity to attend sewing workshops. The Young Quilter website facilitates sewing projects and shows photos of workshops in action!
Since 2018 we have been developing our work with 14 to 18 year olds through our blog ‘Youngish Quilters’ updated weekly with creative projects, articles and interviews to inspire this age group. In the Spotlight will feature the work of Youngish Quilters as well as highlight the Guild’s continued work with schools across the country.
