The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles will celebrate their 40th Anniversary by having a special “[email protected]” Gallery of contemporary work at the Festival of Quilts in August 2019, followed by The Knitting and Stitching Show in October. The Guild issued a challenge to its 17 regions (and Young Quilters) in order to acquire new work by contemporary quilt artists who do not already have a piece in the Guild’s collection. The makers have been asked to interpret the theme of “40” as creatively as possible. The pieces will measure 40” along one edge, with the other dimension between 25: and 40”. The finished quilts will be retained by The Guild at the end of their tour and become part of the Guild’s permanent collection. In this way, work made in the Guild’s 40th year will give future historians a wonderful reference point in which to study the techniques and inspirations pertinent to our time. Because the Guild is asking for a wide interpretation of the theme, we expect that there will be some fascinating pieces from traditional to artisitic to modern. We are especially looking forward to seeing the work of the Young Quilters who will be submitting pieces.
