Activities for Children and Schools

Whether you are coming as a family or school party The Festival of Quilts offers a great range of opportunities for young people to get involved in quilting.
+ Remember children under 12 go free! 

The Quilt Competition

We have categories for both individual children and groups or school parties to take part in The Festival of Quilts competition. This year the theme for these categories is ‘Memories’ and entrants are encouraged to interpret this either literally or abstractly.

Children’s Workshops

We have a selection of children only workshops including ‘Make a Monster’, ‘Fabric Cactus’, ‘Make a Decorated A5 Sketchbook Notebook Cover’, ‘Christmas Stocking’ and ‘Sew a Small Decorated Basket’. You can view all the children workshops on available here. Children aged 8 or above can attend workshops without their parent accompanying them.

All children attending a workshop will get a goody bag filled will exciting gifts from Vlieseline, Brother and Lewis and Irene who all kindly support Young Quilters.

Become a member of the Young Quilters

Young Quilters is all about learning sewing skills, having fun and making friends! Anyone aged 5 to 18 years old can join us.

Membership includes a welcome gift including sewing activities and fabric, two issues of the YQ newsletter in the Spring and Autumn, the chance to enter challenges and win exciting prizes, the opportunity to attend workshop and access to a special Youngish Quilters blog for young people aged 14-18. Joining Young Quilters usually costs £5 per year and you can find out more information about how to sign up on our website: http://www.youngquilters.org.uk/

The Textile Galleries

Inspire your children or students with incredible quilting talent in any of the 19 world-class galleries at the show.

Don’t forget to visit In The Spotlight: Young Quilters 2020 gallery. The Guild issued a challenge to its Young Quilters to create an array of work to celebrate the creativity, skills and talent of these young people and inspire the next generation of quilters to keep the craft alive and thriving.

Children Tickets

We offer a few options for child tickets. Child tickets can be purchased separately, or you can take advantage of our group child tickets (for parties of 10 or more) and make a saving. Additionally every child who enters The Festival of Quilts competition will be sent a free ticket to the show. Children under 12 benefit from free entry into the show.

Festival of Quilts COVID-19 Update

At present we very much hope that Festival of Quilts will go ahead as planned, however we are closely monitoring the situation and continue to follow and adhere to UK Government and Public Health England advice.

Tickets for The Festival of Quilts 2020 (including tickets for workshops and social events) will now be going on sale in April with the usual priority booking for members of the Quilters Guild.

We will ensure to keep you updated on this evolving situation (including the new date tickets will be on sale); please sign up to our newsletter to receive all important notifications on our ticket launch and show programme.

 

Please be assured that during this period of uncertainty, we will continue to offer full refunds to visitors should the event not go ahead.
